Estimeria, officially the Republic of Estimeria, is a small sovereign republic along the southwestern bank of the Amber Lake. It is situated in central Argis and borders the nations of Baltica, Transbaltia, Lusuviya and Littland. It is a sparsely populated nation with a fledgling economy and industry. Boasting an impressive GDP per capita, it is one of the financial hubs of the Amber Lake. Its main industry is banking and finance. Its capital and largest city is Konigshafen, a large port city that acts as the nation's main cultural and industrial hub. Estimeria is most famous for its shipyards, which have a reputation for constructing high quality ships for both merchant and military use.

Etymology

The name Estimeria comes from the Esti tribes that inhabited the southwestern banks of the Amber Lake. They were the primary people of the area, hence the “Esti-” part of Estimeria. The second half of the name is of uncertain origins, but is thought to believe to have come from Fort Maria, which had once been the nation's capital and cultural centre. According to this theory, the full name would mean “The Esti of Maria”, which combined would form Estimeria.

History

Dolchic Colonization

Dolchic Baltians became a large ethnic group in what was Baltia, and were primarily located on the northern shore of the Intrian Sea. Through the 17th to 19th centuries Dolchic Baltians colonised Estimeria, founding cities such as Konigshafen and Wilhelmscassel. Despite making up a small percentage of the Estimerian population, the Dolchic Baltians were dominant in politics and established a minority rule. The city of Konigshafen became the economic and political centre in Estimeria, leading to the decline of the ethnically Estimerian cities.

Independence

Through the 1880s Estimeria had declined economically, and unrest had increased. A series of attempted revolutions occurred, which lead to Transbaltian officials believing the region to be unworthy of the cost of maintaining rule. Therefore, in 1892 the Grand Duke of Transbaltia, Wilhelm III, signed the Article of Estimerian Independence, founding an independent Estimerian state, although de facto still under Ahranaian rule until 1912. The new Estimerian state was believed by many Estimerians to be the beginning of native rule, however the Dolch minority retained their powers and titles, and the balance of power was unchanged. The first King of Estimeria was Moritz I, crowned in 1893, second cousin once removed of Grand Duke Wilhelm.

End of the Monarchy

In 1960 the socialist party gained the most seats in the riigistag, a major upset from the conservative-liberal coalition ruling since 1923. The socialist leader Joachim Miiran became the Prime Minister and announced that a referendum would be held to abolish the monarchy. The abolitionist ticket won with 53% of the vote, 98% of which was native Estimerian. King Moritz II announced his support for the public's decision, however a dispute arose about state seizure of crown possessions. In July 1961, the crown jewels and collections of the royal family were swiftly evacuated before the formal end to the monarchy. King Moritz II left Estimeria on August 3rd 1961, never to return.

Economy

Despite being such a small nation, Estimeria remains one of the largest financial and economic hubs of the Amber Lake region. Boasting a GDP of 23 Billion, and an impressive GDP Per Capita of 21,432 Ringas, its people continue to be some of the most well of in central Argis. It is a strict market economy, that has seen large liberalization ever since the 80s, which has contributed to a very business friendly and attractive area for companies of all manner to set up shop in. Estimeria currently maintains a large export economy, with some of their main products being ship parts, refined metals and petroleum.
