James Leckhampstead Sr. is a Delamarian politician, author and lawyer, who served as President of Delamaria from 1992 to 1996, after three terms as Vice President, he also was elected to two terms as governor of Providence, though he only served two years of the second term to run for Vice President under Robert Conover. He was the youngest person to ever serve as Vice President, at the age of 37 when he first took office. He has four children with his wife Natalie, one of which is Providence governor James Leckhampsted Jr., he is also grandfather to Providence delegate Joseph P. Leckhampstead, New Bedford state delegates Susan and Ronald Leckhampstead, and Uncle to first gentleman Andrew Van Roose.

He was born to a wealthy political family in Cape Hope in 1943, his father, a Senator and publishing magnate, inspired him to run for office. When his father, Woodrow, died, he inherited the majority of his estate, which included a large stock portfolio, now estimated to be worth around £89 Million. When he became Governor of Providence in 1974, he put the money in a Blind Trust. In a leaked 1998 statement it was revealed that his estate was worth around £230 Million in modern francs, and estimates today put his net worth between 250 Million and 1.3 Billion, which would make him one of the most wealthy politicians in the wurld.

Leckhampstead chose not to run in the 1996 Presidential Election, though the favourite to win, he was diagnosed with cancer prior to the United Party Convention, instead he supported his Vice President Gerald Ferraro's run. After Ferraro's major loss to George Cafferty, Leckhampstead overcame cancer, and later regretted dropping out of the race, as he could have easily won.

In April, 2021, President Deborah Van Roose named Leckhampstead as the new Ambassador-General of Delamaria, taking over the role of global ambassador for Delamaria and advisor to the government on foreign policy matters.
