Liberalism in Delamaria

Jump to navigation Jump to search

In Delamaria Liberalism refers to several ideologies, most often Classical liberalism, but it can also refer to economic liberalism and social liberalism.

Liberalism originated in Delamaria as whiggism. Whigs dominated early Delamarian politics, forming governments for the first 64 years with interruptions of only 6 years in total. In the 20th century the successors to the whigs, the Liberal party adopted more interventionist policies under their leader Randolph Cabot, and formed coalitions with the Social Labour Party from 1968 to 1988. Stephen Milbank, leader of the liberals from 1988 to 1998, broke the pact with Social Labour, and adopted many more economically liberal Granthamite policies and shifted the liberals to the economic right, while retaining its social causes.
