The monarchy of the United Dominion, commonly referred to as the Vetokite monarchy, is the constitutional form of government by which a elected sovereign reigns as the head of state of the United Dominion. The current monarch is Emperor Súrvan Jaansma, who ascended the throne on 6 February 2019, upon the death of his predecessor, Emperor Vetok XIII.

Constitutional role

History

The monarchy can trace its beginnings back to the ascension of Asculf Vetok as the founding dynast of the house of Vetok reigning over the Kingdom of Ilunsheim. Following on from this, various heirs adopted the family surname as their regnal title, or alternatively by their given name. Out of the fifty or so who have held the crown since the founding of the nation, forty-three (86%) have been blood-members of the imperial house, with a further six being chosen from the head of the Congregation of Broken Chains and the most recent elected from a member of the aristocracy.
