By 1880, The Kingdom of Kaianule was home to many Europans and Delamarians, who were involved in the island's sugar and mining industry. Kaianule was initially open to these new businesses, providing many new jobs to locals, and building critical infrastructure. The Conover corporation was heavily involved in the sugar industry, and later became involved in politics on the island. In 1882 The Kingdom attempted to pose restrictions on companies such as Conover, which lead to many not recognising the authority of the Kaianule, and then Conover Chairman, Richard Conover, wrote to George Cabott, then President of Delamaria, to intervene. The Delamarian Ambassador to Kaianule, Christopher Frone, organised two Delamarian naval ships to anchor in the port of Hartana, and deliver an ultimatum to then King Kalani Har to agree to the Accord of Montmaine, a document that would cede foreign owned lands to Delamaria, or face a military incursion. The King refused immediately, which lead to Delamarian troops occupying the Royal Palace, and putting the king under house arrest.

Lanada, formally the Territory of Lanada, is an Overseas Territory of Delamaria. Distinct from a State, it has no voting representation in the House of Delegates or the Senate, though advocacy groups have made strides in the past, most bills to make Lanada a state have failed.

Geography

Lanada has a hot and tropical climate, with many white sand and volcanic beaches. The territory is home to two active volcanoes, Mt. Carcan and Kaiathule. Lanada is covered in 'green mountains', with the few flat lands located along the coast being home to the majority of the population.

History

Humans are first thought to have arrived in Lanada in 945 AD, ethnically related to native peoples of Marenesia. The Kingdom of Kaianule was established between 1234 and 1365, with a small population and a fishing based economy. The island nation was discovered by Europan explorers in 1577, and named Lanada by Captain Georges Lanada.

Until 1965, Agriculture was Lanada’s largest industry.

A few months later the Senate of Delamaria voted to annex Kaianule, and change its name to The Territory of Lanada. Immediately several military bases were established in the Territory, including the base that would come to be known as Satterlee Air and Naval Base, the largest military base operated by Delamaria.

In the 20th century, many wealthy Delamarians bought vacation homes in Lanada, along it's beaches. In 1932 the son of King Kalani Har, Wanali Har, was given his father's former palaces and some lands, which were seized during the annexation, to stop them from endorsing an independence movement. In 1948, as chaos ensued the Delamarian government under Howard McMadden, Lanada declared independence, and in 1950 formed The Commonwealth of Lanada, with a reinstated Monarch, and a democratically elected parliament. However the country was unstable due to the end of funding from the central government in Labrador and became very corrupt. The government decided to let out its military bases to foreign militaries as it had good infrastructure and a strategic location. However the government of Lanada ceased this program due to fears that a foreign stationed military could invade.

By 1979 Lanada's major industries were tourism and agriculture, and a new socialist government, headed by Caralai Tas, came into power. The government then abolished the monarchy and slowly seized the assets of Lanada's major corporations, many of which were Delamaria based, which angered Delamarian leadership, which was already uncomfortable with an independent and socialist Lanada, this was amplified in 1981, when documents revealed that the Lanadian government had been funneling payments to the Delamarian terrorist group FLC. In 1982 Delamaria implemented Operation Firecracker, in which overnight, Delamarian paratroopers took control of vital infrastructure and government buildings. Lanadian Supreme Chancellor Tas, on hearing reports that Delamarian soldiers were on the island, evacuated that what was left of the government and military to Kanara Island, also known as Henby Island, where it resided in the Couldrow Army and Naval Base. The Lanadian army, using defencive fortifications built by Delamaria, fought off most attempts of a Delamarian landing. By now the rest of Lanada was under Delamarian control, and supplies were running out for the Lanadian stationed on Kanara. On August 4th, 1982, Delamarian helicopters dropped special forces onto the island, which in turn took out the large guns blocking any attempted landing until now. From there the army was able to take control of the island, and capture Caralai Tas. Tas was then arrested and sentenced in Delamaria. An occupational government was in control of Lanada until 1984, when a terriorial government was put in place, almost identical to the one in place prior to Lanadian independence, the Lanadian people were split on the subject, as with Delamaria came economic prosperity, but they also lost many democratic freedoms seen before.

Today Lanada has no voting representation in the Commonwealth Congress, but has been allowed to have its own Government, similar to that of a State of Delamaria, and the ability to vote in Presidential Elections. Lanada has continuously called for statehood since its becoming a territory, with the 2016 Liberal Presidential Candidate, Stephen Carcan, having Lanada's statehodd as a part of his campaign.

Military tradition has become a key part of modern culture.

Calls for the closure of Satterlee Air and Naval base have also been a part of Lanadian politics since its opening, much of the airfield is located on lands considered sacred in the ancient Kaianule beliefs, though this only applies to a certain sect of the religion. Numerous Delamarian leaders have reduted calls for the closure, as it is the centre of the Delamarian military in mid to west Argis.
