The Electorate of Runesburg is a constituent state of the Empire of Dolchland. It was officially established in 1797 after the Duke of Runesburg was granted the title of Elector by the new Emperor Francis I for his service during the War of the Habstrian Succession. Following the death of Duke Augustus of Runesburg in 1772, the Electorate joined in personal union with the Grand Duchy of Transbaltia, in which it remains today, The Grand Duke of Transbaltia also serves as Prince-Elector of Runesburg, though the Transbaltian territories are rarely accounted for in Dolchland, and offers little weight in the Diet of Electors. The original Duchy was founded in 1678 by Charles III, the Landgrave of Matensburg, following the Matensburgian conquest of the smaller states of the Wuhr valley. The state has been ruled in part by the House of Matensburg since 1280, and grew to be a key player in central and east Dolchland.
