The coat of arms of Batsweda (Sahrabic: شعار البهودة, Šiʿār āl-Bahūda) consists of a shield depicting a palm tree on a white field with wavy blue lines, supported by two Batswedan flags on each side of the shield, and a golden sun above. The current coat of arms was adopted in 2002 after the Jakasse Peace Accords, replacing the former monarchist coat of arms used during the Kingdom of Batsweda.

Design

Bastweda's coat of arms is officially described in the Constitution of Batsweda as followed,

"The coat of arms of the Republic of Batsweda consists of a escutcheon argent, palm tree on a base of three wavy lines azure, supported by the flag of Batsweda, and crowned by a sun or."

The design is based off the coat of arms used by the People's Republic of Batsweda from 1960 to 1969, with teh exclusion of a red star in the centre of the shield.

History

The current national coat of arms area based off the badge of the Pepper Coast colony, which depicted a palm tree over a wavy field of white and blue, and was first adopted in 1858. After independence in 1960, the badge of the Pepper Coast influenced the central shield of the new coat of arms, with the addition of two Batswedan flags flanking the shield, a golden sun above, and a red star superposed on the central element. This design was radically changed after the First Batswedan Civil War in 1969, when the military-led Government for National Unity adopted an emblem depicting an eagle with the Batswedan shield in the centre. In 1982, with the declaration of the Kingdom of Batsweda, a royal coat of arms was created, with the sheild supported by two lions, and the addition of a mantle and eastern-style crown.

After the Second Batswedan Civil War and the signing of the Jakasse Peace Accords in 2002, the Batswedan coat of arms from the People's Republic was re-adopted, with the red star on the original design being removed. Since its adoption, this design has remained the current coat of arms of the Republic of Batsweda.
