Maghlabitai

The Maghlabitai (singular: Maghlabites) are a bodyguard corps in the Greater Holy Empire of Tagmatium. They are one of the two personal bodyguard units of the  Holy Emperor. The Manglabitai are headed by the Epi tou Maghlabitou (Laimiaic for "in charge of the Maghlabitai"). Their uniform consists of red robes and golden armour, with long-staffed maces with gold furniture. Unlike the Spatharokandidatoi, the duty of the Manglabitai extends beyond just guarding the Holy Emperor and encompasses the high officials of Tagmatium, including the three main offices of state, the Mesazon, the Kouropalates and the Rhaiktor, and the heads of the Tagmatine Senates. In the latter of these roles, they work alongside the Spatharokoubikoularioi. They possess the full authority of police officers of Tagmatium, including the right of arrest, and in theory the ability summarily punish any offender.
