Govir (Govir Sister Republic) is one of three Sister Republics that make up the Baltican Federation. It borders the Republic of Dokestva to its North. It is the second largest SREP in population, having a population of 120 thousand people. Dispite this, it remains the smallest SREP out of the current three, only having a territory of 21,214 kms. Located on the Southern part Litauisch peninsula, Govir has historically been an Important economic hub in the region, as the all Important Keelpijip Straits rests just South of Govir itself, making it a prime stop spot for merchants moving from Eastern Arigs, to Western Argis. Much of this economic activity would be centered around the port city of Diems, which remains Govir's largest city. The current capital of the Republic, Govir City, rests just North of Diems, and in the wake of the Baltican Civil War became the capital of the SREP largely due to the "Old guard of Govir", a sepratist movement that aimed to liberate the region from the rule of Dokestva during the civil war. Govir was one of few places during the Civil War that remained loyal to the Republic Government throughout, and in September would be admitted into the North Baltican Federation to form the Baltican Federation.

Etymology and Flag

The Sister Republic of Govir gets its name from the City of Govir, which acts as the capital of the SREP. Govir City, however, has a verydisputedd history, as the origin of the city's name was never recorded. A common consensus is that Govir gets its name from the Dolch word "Gott" meaning God, with the justification for it being that the area on which Govir now rests was formerly a religious site for converted native peoples of the Litauisch peninsula. However, the name could also possibly refer to "Granite" a stone that would be mined in the area quite frequently and used in the construction of public works. The Flag of Govir was created shortly after the Baltican Civil War. It's made up of a tri cotricolourlour of Blue and White, with a Yellow Square in the top Left Corner, addorned with a white star. Its colours are symbolic of the New Baltican Federation, and the Star represents Govir City, the capital of the Sister Republic.

History

Conquest and Settlement

The territory that now comprises the SREP of Govir would be conquered by Lord Arnold the Conquerer, who conquered the region in 1427 along with the entirety of the Litauisch peninsula. Before the arrival of Dolch, most of present day Govir was inhabited by the Hermaitai, who were the primary Gintarian people of the peninsula. The Hermaitai however, would be forced out of Govir, to make room for Dolch settlers, who settled the city of Odinflunch along the Vitsee River, making it the first settlement to be settled within the lands of modern Govir. At first, the South was mainly settled for its fertile land around the Vitsee River and its especially large Delta. This would be the reality for much of the Initial settlement of the Southern half of the Litauisch peninsula. However, as Lord Arnold would go on to expand into more territory North of the Peninsula, more and more agriculture would begin to shift steadily Northwards, especially the Wensal River Basin, which was both flat and fertile and much more populated than the hill riddened and dry Litauisch peninsula. The revitalisation of the South would come after the establishment of the city of Goja in 1436, after which many port cities would emerge throughout the Litauisch peninsula, that would link communities of the Kezanoi Sea, to communities within the Bay of Goja. Diems was one of these cities, being established in 1444 by Bertilo Wenzulan (1409-1457), at the behest of the then Duke of Wensal, Reinar Wensal (1421-1468), eldest son of Lord Arnold (1389-1440). Diems would rapidly expand, and would become an economic hub of the South, primarily due to the export of goods such as olive oil, wine, tiles and timber. Govir too would be established around this time, with first mentions of it being recorded in 1473 as a "Mining Settlement" near the central mountains of Litauisch.

Principality of Govir

Under the Kingdom of Baltica, most of what was Southern Govir became reorganised into the Principality of Govir. It included the modern cities of Govir, Diems and the Island of Bludwinger. Additionally, along with its Southern Lands, the principality was also responsible for the city of Vitsee, and the Vitsee River that made up the border between the Principality of Govir and the Principality of Jungerhil. The Dachsklein family was responsible for the Principality, and although a very minor branch of the much greater Dakstajian Royal Family; responsible for the much later Grand Duchy of Dokestva, they nonetheless grew very wealthy, especially with the large trade networks that became centred around Diems. The Principality would engage in frequent squabbles with the neighbouring Duchy of Tunyev, a much larger Duchy by size but nowhere near as Important of wealthy. During the Wars of Baltican Succession, the Duchy of Tunyev, under Duke Kasimir (1632-1672) would lead a war against the Prince of Govir, Ansgard Dachsklein (1621-1653). The war lasted the duration of the Baltican Succession, but eventually, Kasimir of Tunyev would achieve a decisive victory during the Seige of Govir, killing Prince Ansgard and incorporating the Principality of Govir into the now Grand Duchy of Tunyev. The Island of Bludwinger would be the last remaining place where the Dachsklein remained in power, as all their lands on the mainland were confiscated after the Baltican Succession Wars concluded. Eventually, after yet more conquests, the Dukes of Tunyev would come to form the Grand Duchy of Dokestva under Duke Odo Herrmann in 1891. Govir and Diems would lose much of their Influence during the reign of the Dukes of Tunyev, largely replaced by the likes of cities like Miyask, Mels and Blinstadt.
