Parliamentary elections were held in Sawbrania on September 19 1953. The only electoral coalition allowed to contest was the National Front of Sawbrania. According to the official figures, the turnout was at 99.7% and 99.9% of votes went to the single ballot.
The elections were done using First-past-the-post system with 200 electoral constituencies. Every constituency was presented with a single candidate, despite there being no official rule demanding only one candidate nomination in each constituency.
Despite there being independent candidates, the ballot was effectively communist, with the few independent politicians being added to present a façade of pluralism.
