The Landgraviate of Märzwald is a smaller semi-independent state of Dolchland, located in the south of the country, bordering the Kingdom of Habstria, Raugraviate of Gmunenhochwald, Free City of Flunderberg and Kingdom of Macklenover. Created in 1257 as a border march between Habstria and the east, Märzwald gained a reputation as a mercenarial state in the High Middle Ages, creating a strong cavalry tradition that has persisted into the 21st century. In 1655, the Landgraves of Märzwald abandoned their habits of making war for the highest bidder and entered into formal alliance with the Free City of Flunderberg and the Verbrugen League, although Märzwald itself is not part of the League.
