DUI School LLC (Discover, Understand, Imagine) is an international media organisation that creates and shares educational videos online. The videos are distributed for free under the motto “discovering useful ideas”. DUI was started by Richard Roll on 1 April 2002 when he, as a transfer student, introduced himself as a prank as the new substitute teacher. The school principal was so impressed by his arrogance and teaching talent, Richard was made honorary junior tutor. Since then, he and his classmate Barry Sparks have expanded the original idea into a highbrow edutainment business with the help of the internet. DUI expanded into new and unfamiliar subjects such as science, language, and academic litigation. As of December 2019, DUI has created more than 1,000 online courses with around 8 million MAU subscribers.

Events

Guest-speaker Angel Dividi in 2016[a]

DUI holds an annual conference for its most exclusive subscribers. During this event, well-known guest speakers are invited to present their own 'DUI Report' to the wurld. These reports follow the PechaKucha format of storytelling, where the speaker shows 20 slides with 20 seconds of commentary each (for a total of 6 minutes and 40 seconds).

Criticism

Some viewers complain about an “off-putting smugness” of DUI Report presenters and the cult-like organisation. DUI makes some pretty big claims according to its website, but the efforts of DUI Reports to improve education have not yet been proven effective.
