The Treaty of Godstone, also known as the Treaty of 1718, was signed on 3 Spetember 1718 by the kingdoms of Great Anglia and Lysia after Great Anglia's victory over Lysia during the Anglo-Lysian War.
The signing of the treaty formally ended conflict between Lysia and Great Anglia over control of North Aurelia, and marked the beginning of an era of angian dominance outside Europa. Great Anglia and Lysia each returned much of the territory that they had captured during the war, but Great Anglia gained half of Lysia's possessions in North Aurelia.
Exchange of territories
In the treaty, most of the territories were restored to their original owners, but Anglia was allowed to keep considerable gains. In return, Lysia recognized the sovereignty of Anglia over Anglian Azuria which contained half of the territory of Lysian Louvier.
Taren question
During the negotiations that led to the treaty, a major issue of dispute between Anglia and Lysia had been over the status of the fortifications of the Lysian coastal settlement of Taren. The Anglian had long feared that it would be used as a staging post to launch a Lysian invasion of Britain. The treaty had Anglia force Lysia to accept the demolition of the fortifications.
Effects on the annexed Lysian Louvier
A large part of the Louvian population was forced to move in Louvier, this period will be called The Great Flight. But a small minority remained put, refusing to give in to the pressure of the Anglians who were beginning to develop the conquered territory. This Louvian diaspora is still present, although its population has largely decreased since then. This minority is still a subject of tension between Louvier and Great Anglia, the Louvian crown considering that the Azurian government forces the learning of the anglian language and persecutes the Lysian culture. The impact of this war on indigenous peoples is dramatic. The territory of the tribe of Binsions is annexed to Anglian Azuria and the natives are driven from their territory. this led to conflict with the authorities and forced the Indians to flee into Louvian territory. Native populations who do not leave will be placed in reserves and will die of malnutrition or disease.
