Labrador is the capital and largest city in the United Kingdom of Delamaria. It is located along the Talbot river in the State of Labrador. The city is home to the Delamarian government, with the Parliament of Delamaria, Supreme Court of Delamaria and Civil Service all based in the city. It is also the principal residence of the monarch.

With 5.6 million residents, it is the largest city in Delamaria, followed by Yorkerdam and Alberta. The City is made up of many distinct areas, including the historic area of Westcourt, the fashionable Mulbury, Eaton, and Clarence residential areas, the Rovia and Lenten shopping districts, and the Tracham (TRACOM) and Old Dock business centres. Administratively the city is divided into ten divisions.

History

Foundation

The first settlements located in what is now Labrador was a fishing village named Port Talbot, named after Captain Archibald Talbot an Anglian explorer who also discovered the Talbot River, founded in the late 15th century by Anglian settlers fleeing the settlement of Carlsville after attacks by natives. The town would later be named Labrador in 1526 after explorer Jorge Lavrador, from which the name Labradoria is sourced. A portion of central Labrador was bought by the New Anglian Trade Corporation, later renamed the Labrador Trade and Commerce Corporation, with letters patent from the Anglian King they maintained a semi-independent trading post that would come to dominate Argic trade with Anglia.

In 1530 an Anglian census put the population at around 7000, one of the largest colonial cities in Argis. In 1570 the Lysian architect Francis Debonnaire arrived in the city, on a mission from the Anglian court to find a location for a new capital for the newly formed Dominion of Labradoria, he reorganised much of the cheap colonial settlement into a business and government centre, laying out plans for large parks and avenues.

Poltics and Governance

City assembly and executive

The City of Labrador is governed by the Mayor and the City assembly. The current mayor is Henry Devonport, elected in 2016 and 2020. The mayor has responsibility for transportation, planning, culture, housing, policing, education, economic development and the environment. The legislative body of the City is the City Assembly, a body with 60 members, and lead by a chairperson, currently Regina McMillan.

Divisions

Labrador is divided into ten administrative divisions. Each division is lead by a council comprised of 15 members. The division councils have responsibility for local waste and utility managment, parks and development.
