Nuclear weapons and Delamaria

The Commonwealth of Delamaria is often believed to possess nuclear weapons. There is estimated to be anywhere between 20 and 200 nuclear weapons in the Delamarian arsenal, however the actual number is unknowable.

However, Delamaria maintains a policy of deliberate ambiguity, never officially confirminh nor denying to having nuclear weapons. In 1994 President James Leckhampstead Sr. said in response to a question about other nations possessing nuclear weapons that "should we face a nuclear threat they should be prepared to face the full force of our arsenal" implying that Delamaria does have a nuclear arsenal, however he refused to later elaborate.

First discussions surrounding the development of nuclear weapons began in the late 1960s, as tensions were surmounting between PALL and CAP powers. Having seen the devestation of aerial bombing and land warfare during the First Argic War, the public was wary that newer, more destructive weapons such as SRBMs could be used on civilian Delamarian targets, and thus a deterrent should be developed, to dissuade countries during a conflict from attacking Delamaria's cities.
