The Miracle on the Lam River refers to the period of rapid economic growth in Ngoc Luat, following the Ngocluatian War (1950–1953), during which Ngoc Luat transformed from a newly industrialized country to a developed country.[1][2] The rapid reconstruction and development of the Ngocluatian economy during the latter half of the 20th century was accompanied by events such as the ascension of family-owned conglomerates known as "Tài phiệt" such as NgocLuatTin, Ngoluvico, and DaiBang.[3] This growth also encompassed declines in child mortality and increases in life expectancy.
The term "Miracle on the Lam River" was coined by Huỳnh Sinh Công, the first democratically elected president of the Ngoc Luat, in his New Year's address of 1981, in which he encouraged Ngocluatians to bear difficulties in the hope of achieving a similar economic upturn. The resultant growth has been attributed to the hard work of the labor force.[4]
Following the Miracle on the Lam River, Ngoc Luat has been held as an economic model for other developing countries, capping a successful thirty-some year of rebuilding and modernization.[5]
