Sylvet, officially known as the Federal Republic of Sylvet (Sylvetian: De Federale Republique Sylvet), is a nation located in Argis on Eurth. It has three states, Amielton, Deloret and Segento. Its capital, Villau d'Aurumare, is located in District d'Aurumare, outside its states.

Sylvet officially became a nation with the signing of the Treaty of Sabbiosa, federating the three nations and creating the capital district on the coast between Amieltion and Deloret. The nation still lacked military power however, and although the military situation has improved since, it still lags behind its neighbours because it prioritises welfare and education over its armed forces.

Etymology

The name "Sylvet" comes from the Sylvetian words Sylv (Silver) and Oret (Gold). Some speculate that it also comes from the Sylvetian prefix Syl- meaning with or together.

History

Early History

Evidence of small tribes in the forests of Segento dates back to almost 19,000 years ago, when the land was supposedly settled by previously nomadic peoples, although some researchers argue there is not enough evidence to support that conclusion. Other than that, however, little is known about the early history of Sylvet. The surviving Segentese tribe often tell stories of other tribes and glorious battles, but these have been distorted over time by word of mouth.

Colonialism

On the 2nd of May 1758, a Variotan merchant vessel departed from the capital. It never arrived at its destination however, as the lost Variotan merchants found themselves on the shore of modern day Amielton after a shipwreck. They established a small settlement on the coast, which they called Verlorenstad. Over the next few months, they adventured further inland, meeting the native Segentese people. At first, they were unable to communicate easily, but over the next few years they worked together to develop a combination of their two languages that both could understand. The merchants named the area around their settlement Amielton, after Filip d'Louis Amiel, the chieftain of the Segentese that helped them in their hour of need.

On the 3rd of September 1764, after six and a half years, 300 Limonaian settlers arrived in modern day Deloret, establishing their own inland colony of Sabbiosa. On September 30th, after their exploration the land nearby, the Limonaians discovered the Variotans' settlement and befriended them. The lost merchants explained what had happened, and word reached Variota that a group of their merchants had been found near a Limonaian colony. Variota promptly sent small groups of settlers to Verlorenstad to further investigate the area already settled by their merchants. By January 28th, several small deposits of gold had been found in the hills, and mines were set up quickly.

The Variotan and Limonaian settlers brought technological advancement with them, and Segento prospered with use of their newfound neighbors' technology. After many years of colonisation, practically the entire area of modern day Sylvet was composed of three nations: Deloret, Amielton and Segento, Deloret being a subject of Limonaia and Amielton a subject of Variota.

Limonaian Civil War

In 1902 the Limonaian Civil War broke out, and in June Deloret broke away from the Kingdom, establishing itself as an independent state. As an independent state, however, it became clear that they wouldn't survive long on their own with their small revolutionary force as a military. Shorty after obtaining independence, Deloret formed an alliance with Segento to maintain its newfound status. The next year on the 11th of September, Amielton split peacefully from Variota after investigations concluded the great majority of the natural gold resource in Amielton's hills had been depleted, and determined that the colony's mines cost more to run than they made.

Geography

Sylvet is a coastal nation, with mostly sandy shores. Further inland, there are many hills, a large forest and a large plain.

Government and Politics

Sylvet is a Federal Social Democracy. The government of Sylvet is split between three layers: the federal government in the capital, the respective governments of its three states Amielton, Deloret and Segento, and their municipalities' local governments. The states, though effectively self-governing, all adhere to the central government.

As a Social Democracy, Sylvet has an extensive welfare system in place and maintains a policy of state interventionism to ensure social justice while still retaining a capitalist economic system.

Sylvet has two leaders: head of state Opperste Chanselier Lyria Izrea, and the head of government is Premier Lei-jon Afari.

Parties and Elections

The Opperste Chanselier is re-elected every 6 years, and the Premier is re-elected every 2 years.

There are two main political parties in Sylvet, the Social Party and the XXX.
