Anatea (Anˈatea ( Listen Italian)), officially the Republic of Anatea (Cristinese: Repubblica di Anatea), is a country consisting of a continental part, delimited by the Amber Mountains, a peninsula, a river, two islands and a plain surrounding it. Anatea is located in Southern Aurelia, in Eurth. A constitutional monarchy with Solisea as its capital, the country covers a total area of 246,000 km2 (95,000 sq mi) and shares land borders with Lybadev, New Ruthenia, Casma, Illirea and Azuria. With around 34 million inhabitants, Anatea is the second-most populous state in Aurelia.

Today, Anatea is considered to be a well culturally and advanced country, with the wurld's Nth-largest economy by GDP (Nth in Aurelia). It ranks highly in life expectancy, quality of life, healthcare, and education. The country plays a prominent role in diplomatic affairs, and it's ranked the world's Nth most-powerful military. Anatea is a founding and leading member of the Aurelian League. The country has been a global centre of cuisine and aviation technologies. As a reflection of its cultural wealth, Anatea is the Nth-most visited country.

Etymology

The name Anatea derives from the ancient Amberian which means "Land of the Sun" (Ana = Sun, Tea = Land). (to rewrite)

History

Stone Age, Bronze Age & Iron Age

Some artefacts and remains of small rudimentary sculptures or work tools found in or just outside the Amber Mountains are dated as belonging to 3000 BC circa. Although some historians are still trying to understand if the date is entirely correct, they use 3000 BC as a starting date for the formation of the first Anatean tribes, managing to categorize them into 2 initial social agglomerations: the tribe of the Amberians (Amber) and the Sachanians (Sachana). Bronze weapons were discovered in the vicinity of the Sachana territories, mainly used by the Amberians. This documents how short conflicts were often in progress between the Sachanians and the Amberians. This is still of unknown nature, but it is presumed for xenophobic reasons, given the hostility of the Amberians maintained over the following centuries. The era is also marked by the birth of the first city-states, such as the ones of Algar and Arlost. The Sachanians expanded towards the north, which led to significant military and economic advantages in terms of acquired resources.

With the introduction of iron by the Amberians, they were able to easily stop the advance of the Sachanians in the Amber region, suggesting that the state of conflict between the two populations continued for centuries.

Classical Age & Post-Classical Era

With the military, economic and cultural development of civilizations, as well as the radicalization of the position of the Anatean communities, the larger city-states began to incorporate the smaller communities into their territories, creating the first Anatean proto-states. This change led the Sachanians to form the Kingdom of Sachana and the war with the Amberians began to turn more and more in favour of the latter. In 680 BCE the first two states were formed in the Anatean peninsula: the Kingdom of Sachana, which extended into today's regions of Sachana and Altoora, and the Kingdom of Amber, which remained perched in the Amber mountains. With the beginning of 220 BCE, the conflict between the two kingdoms was extinguished due to no change of territories on either side. This led both nations to sign the first treaty conceived in the peninsula, the Treaty of Algar, with which Sachana and Amber would undertake to keep the peace between the two nations.

For centuries the situation remained stale and without any development, until in 800 Sachana was forced to counter the Azurian invasion from the north. With the Kingdom of Sachana in crisis, Amber helped the Sachanians to repel the invaders from the peninsula. But at the end of the conflict, Amber took over and turned against its ally in 820. Amber managing to defeat the weak Sachana in 840. With Amber as the only remaining nation on the peninsula, it expanded its borders to encompass the entire Anatean peninsula. But as attacks by barbarian populations, dynastic crises and the absence of permanent water sources intensified, the Amberians were forced to leave the conquered territories and settle in the mountains. The Anatean Peninsula and the Kingdom of Amber perpetrated a long period of isolation from the external events of the world, until in 1520 the settlers from Mantella landed in today's Solana region and began a rapid colonization of the territory. Only in 1535 the settlers and the Amberians managed to come into contact, but given the isolationist and xenophobic nature of the Amberians, they responded with violence and looting of the Mantellan settlements.

Modern Age & 20th Century

With Amber's growing hostility towards the Mantellan colony, the latter began a military campaign in 1540, which resulted in the "Amber War". Superior to the Amberians in terms of numbers, weapons and with better tactics, Mantella succeeded only in 1547 in subjugating the last Amberian stronghold of Alcarentia. They conquered the western part of the peninsula after a long time, expanding its dominions over the entire Anatean peninsula. With the annexation of the entire peninsula, the new territory began to be called "Nuova Mantella", a name that will remain until 1698.

In the following centuries, Nuova Mantella prospered economically, attracting the interests of the motherland, which required more and more taxes and resources to support the central economy.

These demands and the increasingly heavy taxes began to weigh on the economy of Nuova Mantella, reducing the prosperity of the colony and its efficiency. This led, in 1612, the settlers to organize a protest in the capital of the colony, Solisea, which was repressed in blood. The war between Mantella and the Skrovjans took its toll of resources and the quality of life rapidly decaying. Nuova Mantella began a full-scale rebellion in various points in the colony in 1682, which resulted in the Anatean War. Led by Baron Anatolio Soleri, the rebels managed to inflict various losses on the Mantellan forces. Thanks to the help from the Amberian resistance and the communications with the Cristinese insurgents, they brought the conflict to a close in 1698. The Mantellan army was expulsed, and the Kingdom of Anatea proclaimed. With its own autonomy, Anatea began to establish itself as an independent nation on the continent, helping to maintain the independence of the Kingdom of Kirvina and Eulycea during the Eustacian Wars in the first half of the 19th century.

21st Century

In 2018, Anatea began investing in renewable energy production, expecting to get out of its oil dependency in 2030. With the collapse of the economy in Ruthenia, the Dalstavia region decided to proclaim its independence from Ruthenia in 2019, joining Anatea. After various tensions between Anatea and Ruthenia, the latter carried out the assassination of the regents of Anatea, causing the Dalstavian War to break out.

Politics

Government

The Republic of Anatea is a unitary state under a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary democracy, divided in two main parties: the Set (right-wing conservative party) and the Lucet (left-wing progressionist party). Princess Sofia Soleri is the monarch and head of state of Anatea, having the right to supervise the prime minister's government and manage the nation's foreign affairs with other countries. The Prime Minister holds effective executive power and must receive a vote of approval from the Senate to execute most political activities. By virtue of that, the Prime Minister has exclusive power to: co-ordinate intelligence policies, determining the financial resources and strengthening national security; apply and protect State secrets; authorise agents to carry out operations, in Anatea or abroad, in violation of the law. The prime minister is appointed by the vote of the people every two years. The Senate is the only house in the unicameralist Anatean Parliament, composed by 180 seats. The senators have the right to vote to approve a political decision made by the prime minister. The senators are composed by economists, high-ranking military and police members, agricultural experts, scientists, human right lawyers, lawyers, and architects. The Senate members are appointed every 5 years by the monarch. For regional decisions, the proposal must pass first through the supervision of the regional minister of the chosen region, and then through the Senate.

The Constitution of Anatea is uncodified and consists mostly of a collection of disparate written sources, including statutes, judge-made case law and international treaties, together with constitutional conventions and fundamental principles for the population. The Anatean Parliament, only with a proposal by the monarch, can perform "constitutional reforms", having the political power to change or abolish almost any written element of the constitution.

Each party must select every two years, through vote from their members, a candidate for the elections for the following positions: prime minister, minister of defence, minister of economy and finance, minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, minister of the interior, minister of justice, minister of agricultural, food and forestry policies, minister of the environment and the protection of land and sea, minister of infrastructure and transport, minister of labour and social policies, minister of education, universities and research, minister of cultural heritage and activities, minister of health. Each minister can propose a decision to the Senate, but it must be validated beforehand by the prime minister.

Military

The Anatean Army, Navy, and Air Force collectively form the Anatean Armed Forces, under the command of the Supreme Defence Council, presided over by the prime minister and the monarch. Since ???, military service is voluntary. Currently, the Anatean military has ??? personnel on active duty.

The Anatean Army is the national ground defence force. Its best-known combat vehicles are the Dardo infantry fighting vehicle, the Centauro tank destroyer and the OF-40 Mk.3 tank, and among its aircraft the Mi-24 attack helicopter, in the last years deployed in the war with Ruthenia. It also has at its disposal many M113 armoured vehicles.

The Anatean Navy is a blue-water navy. In modern times, the Anatean Navy patrol the Typhon Sea to maintain security in the open waters, together with other Aurelian nations.

The Anatean Air Force in 2021 operates ??? combat jets. A transport capability is guaranteed by a fleet of ??? C-130Hs. It is the most developed and powerful branch of the Anatean Armed Forces.

Demographics

At the beginning of 2021, Anatea had 34,230,970 inhabitants. The most populated areas are the area of the Sachana region, the cities of Los Canas and Solisea, while the most sparsely populated are the Amber Mountains and Dresdenian Appennine. The population is mainly composed by three different ethnic groups: Anateans, Amberians and Sachanians.

The Anateans are the descendants of the Mantellan settlers who had discovered and colonized the Anatean peninsula in the 16th century. The Amberians are the descendants of the kingdom of Amber, recognizable by their very fair complexion compared to the rest of the population. The Sachanians are the descendants of the Kingdom of Sachana, recognizable by their slightly more tanned complexion. Over the centuries, population growth has remained stable, but with the economic boom of the Republican period, the fertility rate has begun to decline, counteracting the ever-increasing quality of life. Immigration is welcomed, and the government hosts roughly 60-80 thousand new citizens each year, but the emigration of Anatean citizens to other nations is around 4,000-6,000 each year.

With the end of the Dalstavian War in 2019, a large part of the Ruthenian population of Dalstavia became part of the Anatean community, counting about 6 million citizens.

The official language of Anatea is Cristinese. The first Mantellan settlers used Mantellan. But when they had the first contacts with the Sachanians and the Amberians, Mantellan was too difficult to adapt to the tribes recently incorporated into the colony. And so Cristinese was adopted as the language of communication. Over the centuries, the Cristinese language replaced the Mantellan language. Mantellan transformed into a regional language that's still spoken in some coastal areas of Solana, Eris and Altys Islands. Amberian and Sachanian are still spoken in their respective regions of Amber and Sachana. Sachanian has now almost completely dissolved; Amberian is still strongly present in some remote villages in the mountains.

In 2021, the proportion of Anateans who identified themselves as Christian Apostolics was 40.0%. The state has never elected a state religion, but many citizens practice Christian Apostolic as a tradition for the Mantellian roots of their predecessors. The Christian Apostolic peak of believers was 70% in 1735, and then declined more and more slowly with the creation of an Anatean identity among the population and the technological advancement in the society.

Apart from Christian Apostolic, 15% of the population practice other religions, the largest being Aroman, Salvian Catholicism and Aconism.

Education

Education in Anatea is free and mandatory from ages six to sixteen, and consists of five stages: kindergarten (scuola dell'infanzia), primary school (scuola primaria), lower secondary school (scuola secondaria di primo grado), upper secondary school (scuola secondaria di secondo grado) and university (università). Primary education lasts eight years. Students are given a basic education in Cristinese, Anglish, mathematics, natural sciences, history, geography, social studies, physical education and visual and musical arts. Secondary education lasts for five years and includes three traditional types of schools focused on different academic levels: the Liceo prepares students for university studies with a classical or scientific curriculum, while the Istituto tecnico and the Istituto professionale prepare pupils for vocational education. Tertiary education in Anatea is divided between public universities, private universities and the prestigious and selective superior graduate schools.

Health

The Anatea state runs a universal public healthcare system since 1989. However, healthcare is provided to all citizens and residents by a mixed public-private system. The public part is the Servizio Sanitario Repubblicano, which is organised under the Ministry of Health and administered on a devolved regional basis. Healthcare spending in Anatea accounted for ??.??% of the national GDP in 2021. Anatea in 2021 ranked as having the world's Nth best healthcare system, and the world's Nth best healthcare performance.

Life expectancy in Anatea is 80 for males and 85 for females, placing the country Nth in the world for life expectancy. In comparison to other countries, Anatea has a relatively low rate of adult obesity (below 10%), as there are several health benefits of the Typhon diet.

The Amberian Question

With the formation of Anatea after the Anatean War, there is still a strong social and industrial disparity in terms of welfare and production between the rest of the nation and the Amber region. The east is more industrialized and socially open to new economic and social introductions. Amber continues to maintain strong and ancient traditions, a little economic openness regarding the repositioning of some industries and a social closure towards other ethnic groups.

In 1970, the Anatean government tried to reduce the economic disparity by creating new industries and activities in the region. But these were rejected by the population for fear of damaging the Amberian natural landscape. The "Peak Shadows" violently responded with terrorist attacks. Over the decades, with the introduction of mandatory education, the younger Amberian generations began to open up socially towards the rest of the population. This reached a peak in 2010, with 2 million Amberians migrating towards the rest of the Anatean peninsula, looking for luck and work. A 2007 study on the Amberian economy estimated that without the presence of the "Peak Shadows" the Amberian economy would be able to catch up with the rest of the nation.

Government

The Anatean government is governed by the monarch in office and one of the two presidents of the Lucet (progressive leftist party) and Set (right wing conservative party) parties that is elected by the population. Every law or decision to be taken is discussed between the two parties and then chosen by the vote of the people, except in cases of emergency in which the monarch has to make the decision. The Anatean population is free to vote and every year on May 1st the president of one of the two parties is elected by the population.

The Anatean Army counts few soldiers as it doesn't want to show itself as a militaristic nation, aiming to have technologically superior weapons rather than superior number of soldiers and vehicles. The Anatean Armed Forces are divided between the Anatean Strike Force, Anatean Defense Force, Anatean Air Force, Anatean Air Defense Force, Anatean Navy and Republican Strategy Service. Each soldier is trained for a period of 2 months before becoming an effective part of the army, develop in the recruits. The reason they must serve their nation and guarantee them proper training in the use of many weapons and combat techniques. Anatea owns some missile sites hosting non-nuclear weapons and fortifications in the hinterland, concentrating most of its resources in the Air Force, always ready to react. Anatea, as well as its army, is strongly opposed to the indescribable use of nuclear or chemical weapons, aiming to protect the safety of civilians of any nation in every combat situation.

Culture

Anatea is a country that aims at the peaceful prosperity of its population and its neighbours, in particular education focuses on respecting people and their rights, instilling a civil duty in young Anateans to improve society and themselves. Anatean culture is based on art and cooking. In particular, the most famous dish is pasta alla carbonara, a delicacy that can be tasted in any restaurant of Anatea. While for art the country has hosted different artistic currents, among the most famous neoclassicism and impressionism. In the film industry the country is quite active, having filmed famous works transmitted still today in the Anatean cinemas and becoming in time some classics.
