Robert Conover was a Delamarian politician, who served as President of Delamaria from 1980 to 1992, one of few President's to serve three terms. A prominent member of the United Party, Conover served as Governor of Vandergart from 1972 to 1980, and was previously an army spokesman and political campaigner.

Conover was a major proponent of Delamarian conservatism, which went against the Big Tent politics of the United Party's President James Earl.

Conover was born in Hambury, Pawnee in 1920, on the estate of his grandfather Richard Conover, a man most famous for compelling the Delamarian government to annex Lanada in 1882. His parents were James Conover and Josephine Carlisle, both of whom were from immensely wealthy families, however in 1922 the family moved to northern Vandergart, where James had bought a ranch. Robert and his two siblings grew up riding horses and herding cattle on the ranch, and were very different from their cousins who led typical upper class lives mostly revolving around their academics and sporting activities. Robert's cousin John was chosen supposedly at birth by his grandfather to become President and throughout much of his life this was expected of him, however his alleged homosexuality caused problems within the family, and at the time of which it became an issue it was illegal in most states in Delamaria. This quickly put Robert into the position of the most senior grandchild in his grandfather's eyes, and he was taken to Edwardsland to be educated. In 1938 Conover attended the University of Crownsland, and graduated in 1942 majoring in History, with minors in Business and English.

In 1944 Conover joined his family business Conover, however at the outbreak of the First Argic War five years later Conover enlisted in the Delamarian Army. Conover would see action in Iverica and after becoming famous as 'Captain Conover' he was made an army spokesman, promoting war bonds and encouraging enlistment. This was Conover's first brush with the media and quickly became acustomed to the spotlight. In 1955 Conover left the army and began working for Conover, now in the hands of his uncle, as a spokesman and later the head of its automotive division. In 1960 Conover led the company's sale of its automotive division to DA
