T&O Ferries (formerly the Tamurin and Orioni Steam Navigation Company) is a joint venture shipping company that operates ferries from Tamurin to Orioni and other nearby Europan countries including Pirilao, Miiros and Sarvoski. It was sold to Blue Star Line in February 2006.
History
T&O began ferry operations in Hlondeth in 1967 with a route to Nordhaven using the MS Cinkam, a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) ferry. T&O eventually supplemented the Hlondeth-Nordhaven route with the three sisters MS Ciruttai, MS Kukar and MS Puli, all former Miirosi ferries. In the 1970s, they added destinations in Pirilao to their route. In the 1980s, T&O aquired a majority stake in the Sarvoski shipping sector and formally absorbed it into their operations. In the 1990s, with the arrival of inexpensive air travel, T&O refocused the majority of its operations on freight ships.
In April 2004, T&O sold a 25% stake to Miirosi investors. In November 2005 Roiters reported that T&O was in takeover talks with Blue Star Line. In January 2006 shareholders voted in favour of the offer from Blue Star Line. The combined group is the world's third largest shipping operator.
